About us

Come to CITRU

The Rodolfo Usigli National Theater Research, Documentation and Information Center (Centro Nacional de Investigación, Documentación e Información Teatral Rodolfo Usigli), better known as CITRU, was born in 1981 and is an important forum for theater reflection in Mexico. Its role is to research, compile, organize, preserve, link, update and spread information on Mexican theater in relation to its own history and to world theater phenomena. Come to CITRU and be part of all the activities. We offer colloquia, workshops, exhibitions, videos, editorial presentations, talks with researchers, conferences and much more. Visit us on the fifth floor of the Research Tower at the National Center for the Arts (Centro Nacional de las Artes) and visit our web page: www.citru.bellasartes.gob.mx.

How did come about?

How did CITRU come about?

It has been established as an important venue for theater reflection in Mexico. Its main role is to compile, organize, preserve, link, update and spread information about Mexican theater in relation to its own history and to world theater phenomena.

Also, at CITRU Mexican theater phenomena are investigated, documenting and interpreting both the historic theater movements and the creative work of the artists, placing into context recent theater facts.

The results of this task have been able to reach researchers, creators and the interested public in very diverse ways.

Throughout all these years, CITRU has published books and magazines, has brought its thoughts to national theater events by way of exhibitions, and has also participated in reflection, linking national and international creators and thinkers with the theater community through traditional formats (conferences, workshops, seminars) as well as new formats (“Dismantlings”, “The Imaginary Museum of Mexican Theater”, etc.). Similarly, CITRU constantly updates itself on the use of new information technologies with visual support and multimedia formats that allow new models of thinking about and distributing theater documentation and research.

Where is it headed?

Where is it headed ?

The CITRU project integrates several proposals to provide continuity to the current academic and administrative processes. The activities we propose would enrich the image and the academic life of the center, since they are based on experience and projection of researchers. These are the reasons we work on the creation of a Master’s Degree in Theater Studies, on the reflection on theatrical pedagogy and on the implementation of a Documentation and Research Department in each state of Mexico.
