Josefina is a Doctor in Sociology at the Political and Social Science Department of UNAM (Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales de la UNAM). She has given courses and conferences at Birkbeck, University of London; Bristol University, England; Fluminense Federal University of Brazil; UNAM’S Theater University Center (Centro Universitario de Teatro de la UNAM); Stanford University in California; Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona; Ex Teresa Current Art; University Museum of Chopo (Museo Universitario del Chopo); Per.for.ART ESPAI in Barcelona, and at the Center of U.S.-Mexican Studies at UC San Diego, amongst others.

From 1995 to 1996 she was Artistic Coordinator of Laboratorios del Teatro Santa Catarina de la UNAM. She was a fellow scholar of the Trust Fund for the Culture Mexico/United States in the 1997 and 2001 issues and of the Program for the Encouragement of Cultural Projects and Joint Ventures of FONCA (Programa de Fomento a Proyectos y Coinversiones Culturales del FONCA) 2004, in order to edit a documentary series about women in performance and action-art in Mexico.

She is the author of The Fourth Dimension of Theater: Time, Space and Video in the Modern Scene, 1998. She selected the texts and wrote the introduction of the book The Mexterminator, Reverse Anthropology of a Postmexican Performer, by Guillermo Gómez Peña, Océano, 2002. She is the co-author of Performance and Art-Action in Latin America, Ex Teresa, 2005; co-editor of Notebook of Research, Performance and Theatricality, 2005, and she compiled the 15 CD’s of the Documentary Series Performance, Women in Action, 2006, amongst other publications.

Her career at CITRU has been geared toward the study of performance in Mexico. In recent years, she has worked on the documentation and preparation for the publishing of various CDs; amongst them: César Martínez: Dynamite and Gelatin, Víctor Lerma: Game and Subtlety, Carlos Jaurena: Catharsis and Communication, and Ricardo Velazko: Humor and Video. In February and March 2013 she gave the conferences: “Video, Performance and Women in Mexico” at the Tápies Foundation in Barcelona, Spain, and “The Frontier Between the Public and the Private in Performance”, within the framework of the Birkbeck Research Seminar, University of London.

She is currently working on the selection and analysis of the graphic material and graphic video, as well as the systematization and translation of the compiled material for the making of the CD: Rubén Velázquez.
