He studied Acting and Theater at the Centro Universitario de Teatro (CUT) [University Theatre Center] of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and at the Internazionale dell 'Attore Laboratory in Florence, Italy. He studied Stage Direction with master Ludwik Margules and took courses with other teachers of the contemporary scene.

As a stage director, he has made about 30 theatrical and operatic stagings. He taught Acting at the Foro Teatro Contemporáneo [Contemporary Theater Forum] (from 1993 to 2005) and at Argos / CasAzul (since 2006), as well as Theatre History at CUT (since 2008). He directed the magazine Repertoire of the Autonomous University of Querétaro from 1990 to 1995, and was responsible for the weekly column "Theatre" of the magazine Proceso from 1999 to mid 2003. He has published articles, essays, interviews and translations in newspapers and magazines in Mexico and abroad, as well as in anthologies in Mexico and other countries. He has been jury of the UNESCO Prize for the Performing Arts (2004) and the Cairo International Festival Award for Experimental Theatre (2008). Member of the Comité d’Honour of Hispanité d'Explorations (France), and the Editorial Boards of the magazines: Paso de Gato, Investigación, Repértorio (Brazil), Don Galán (Theatrical Documentation Center, Spain) and Critical Stages (International Association of Theatre Critics).
Author of the books: Utopías aplazadas [Postponed Utopias], Conaculta [National Council for Culture and Arts], 2003; Ludwik Margules, Memorias [Ludwik Margules, Memories], El Milagro-Conaculta, 2004; A escena [Go on Stage!], La Centena Collection (Essay), Conaculta - Ediciones Sin Nombre, 2006. He translated: the Yoshi Oida’s book, Un actor a la deriva [], El Milagro, 2003; Condición sociológica de la puesta en escena teatral [The Sociological Condition of the Theatrical Staging] by Bernard Dort, Paso de Gato, 2009; and he revised the translation of Roni Unger’s book Poesía en Voz Alta, INBA [National Institute of Fine Arts] - UNAM, 2006. From May 2003 until August 2012 he was the Director of the Centro Nacional de Investigación Teatral Rodolfo Usigli (CITRU/INBA) [The Rodolfo Usigli National Theater Research, Documentation and Information Center], where he currently works as chief editor.
